The present study aims to explore the lived experience of the fear of missing out (FoMO) among students and its role in their academic performance. In recent years, the growing use of social networks and smartphones has led to the emergence of FoMO, a phenomenon associated with anxiety, distraction, decreased concentration, and lower academic achievement. Adopting a qualitative research approach based on descriptive phenomenology, this study seeks to understand the inner experiences and perceptions of students regarding FoMO and its impact on their educational functioning. Data will be collected through semi-structured interviews with students aged 14–16 in middle schools of District 15 in Tehran and analyzed using Colaizzi’s method. The findings are expected to provide deeper insights into the psychological effects of social media use among adolescents and contribute to the development of effective educational and counseling interventions to improve their academic performance.
