This proposal investigates the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and social anxiety, as well as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), while examining the mediating roles of perfectionism and experiential avoidance. OCD and social anxiety are among the most common psychological issues faced by youth and students, often occurring simultaneously. Researchers aim to identify the underlying common factors of these disorders.
Intolerance of uncertainty refers to an individual's inability to accept ambiguous situations, and studies indicate that individuals with low tolerance for uncertainty tend to engage in avoidant behaviors and extreme perfectionism. This research is based on the assumption that negative perfectionism and experiential avoidance can act as mediating variables in the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and symptoms of OCD.
The goal of this study is to examine the direct and indirect effects of intolerance of uncertainty on OCD symptoms, as well as to investigate the mediating roles of perfectionism and experiential avoidance. The statistical population will include undergraduate students from Allameh Tabatabai University and Imam Khomeini University in Qazvin. This research could contribute to the design of more effective therapeutic interventions for these disorders and highlight the cognitive and behavioral significance of these variables in improving mental health.
