This research investigates the psychophysiological responses of translators when working with emotionally charged texts, with particular attention to the role of trait emotional intelligence. The topic was chosen because translation is not only a cognitive activity but also an affective one, especially when translators engage with texts that contain strong emotional content such as trauma, conflict, or distressing narratives. Despite the growing interest in Translation Process Research (TPR), relatively little empirical work has examined how translators’ physiological responses interact with emotional stimuli during the translation process. By integrating psychophysiological measures such as ECG and EMG with psychological constructs like emotional intelligence, this study aims to provide a deeper understanding of how emotional and physiological factors influence translation performance. The significance of this topic lies in its potential to broaden the scope of translation studies by incorporating interdisciplinary methods from psychology and psychophysiology. This research is particularly valuable because it contributes to the development of innovative research approaches within the field and highlights the importance of emotional competence in professional translation practice. The findings may also inform translator training by emphasizing the role of emotional regulation and resilience when working with emotionally demanding texts.
