Due to the interdisciplinary nature of translation studies, there have been studies in the field of TS conducted with different disciplines (Chesterman, 2018). Psychology has been one of those fields that has been associated with translation studies; “in 1972, […] James S. Holmes […] envisioned a process-oriented branch of Descriptive Translation Studies […] which he also called ’the psychology of translation’” (Jaaskelainen, 2012, p. 191). In interdisciplinary studies, concepts, theories, tools, and methodologies are borrowed and lent since it would be hard to conduct such studies “without borrowing concepts and instruments from established fields of research; […] such ‘contact’ between (scholarly) communities deserves to be accepted as interdisciplinary work” (Lambert, 2012, p. 83). However, apart from this interdisciplinary nature of TS, in the fields of EI and TS, according to Dacre Pool and Qualter (2012), “at present very few EI training programmes have been systematically designed, implemented and evaluated”. Meanwhile, based on the current TS literature (discussed in the second chapter), it also seems that not many cases have focused on the improvement of EI. To be more specific, based on the TS literature, it appears that there have scarcely been studies on EI intervention trainings for translation students, specifically trainings through coaching method. Therefore, to fulfill this gap, this study will aim to work on improving the emotional intelligence of the Iranian BA English translation students through a coaching method.
