In this study, the researchers aim to examine the level of loneliness among students at Allameh Tabataba’i University and explore its relationship with various dimensions of mental health. Data will be collected using two standardized instruments: the short form of the Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale developed by DiTommaso, Brannen, and Best (2004), and the 28-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) developed by Goldberg (1979). The first instrument assesses emotional and social loneliness, while the second evaluates four components of mental health: somatic symptoms, anxiety and insomnia, social dysfunction, and depression. The study will be conducted as a survey, and participation will be entirely voluntary. Informed consent will be obtained from all participants prior to data collection, and all personal information will be recorded anonymously and treated confidentially. The results of this research are expected to provide a clear mapping of loneliness distribution across the university and help identify high-risk groups. Furthermore, the findings may contribute to the development of targeted interventions aimed at improving students’ mental health and reducing their sense of loneliness.
