The present study aims to investigate the effectiveness of distress management training on coping strategies and parenting stress in mothers of children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. ADHD, as one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children, not only affects the child's performance, but also imposes significant stress, especially on mothers. Studies show that mothers of these children often use ineffective coping strategies, which can lead to a decrease in their quality of life and an increase in psychological disorders. In this study, a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest-follow-up design was used. The statistical population includes mothers of children aged 4 to 15 years with ADHD referring to psychological centers in Tehran, of which 40 people will be selected purposively and randomly divided into two experimental and control groups. The experimental group will undergo 12 sessions of distress management training based on the integrated protocol for transdiagnostic treatment of emotional disorders. Data will be collected using parenting stress, coping strategies, and distress tolerance questionnaires and analyzed using the statistical methods of analysis of covariance and repeated measures in SPSS software.
The findings have important applications in the field of clinical psychology and family counseling and can be a basis for designing psychological training programs. Improving the psychological state of mothers not only increases their quality of life, but can also enhance the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions for children with ADHD.
