1. Problem Statement and Research Significance

The increasing elderly population in Iran and globally has rendered the provision of specialized airport services for this demographic a critical challenge. As one of Iran’s busiest airports, Mehrabad Airport currently offers limited accommodations for elderly and disabled passengers. This study seeks to identify and prioritize the essential airport services required to enhance the travel experience for these individuals.

2. Research Methodology

This study adopts an applied research design with a mixed-methods (qualitative-quantitative) approach. Data was systematically collected through a comprehensive review of relevant documents and subsequently categorized. Utilizing the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) in Expert Choice software, 15 domain experts were selected from stakeholder groups in accordance with the executive guidelines governing air travel for passengers with disabilities and reduced mobility.

3. Research Questions

Main Question:

What are the key indicators for providing airport services to elderly and disabled passengers?

Subsidiary Questions:

What is the current status of service indicators for elderly and disabled passengers at Mehrabad Airport?

What are the standard service indicators for elderly and disabled passengers at Mehrabad Airport?

How are these service indicators prioritized from the perspective of elderly and disabled passengers at Mehrabad Airport?

4. Conclusions and Recommendations

The findings of this study provide actionable insights for airport administrators and policymakers in designing tailored services for elderly and disabled passengers. Prioritizing services based on the perspectives of individuals with disabilities and elderly passengers enables managers and planners to focus on enhancing the most critical service indicators.
