Background

Psychological pain is an independent and important construct associated with feelings such as shame, sadness, loneliness, and emptiness, and endangers people's psychological well-being. On the other hand, middle age is defined as a period with special challenges and the need for high psychological adaptation, however, the examination of psychological pain in this developmental period and the development of an intervention protocol focused on it have been neglected so far.

Problem Statement and objectives

The central issue of this research is psychological pain, and the first step is to study psychological pain in mid-life crisis to answer the question, what is psychological pain in mid-life crisis? In the second step, what can be the therapeutic method of acceptance and commitment focused on the construct of psychological pain and what is its effectiveness on mental pain, loneliness and psychological well-being?

Research method and statistical population

This research will be conducted in the community of working people between the ages of 35 and 55 in Tehran province using a qualitative and quantitative method with a mixed model. In the first qualitative stage, psychological pain is analyzed using the grounded theory method, and in the second stage, the effectiveness of the intervention protocol is conducted in an equivalent clinical trial, with a random allocation ratio of 1:1, pretest-posttest with a control group.

Conclusion

Findings based on a comprehensive and deep understanding of the nature of psychological pain in mid-life crisis will be obtained. It is also expected to achieve an effective intervention protocol to reduce psychological pain and loneliness and increase psychological well-being.
