The Role of Schools and School Counselors :

Schools and the broader socio-economic environment play a significant role in shaping students' perceptions of the opportunities and resources available for higher education. The history of school counseling has faced challenges, including ambiguous and poorly defined structures. The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) defines school counselors as individuals who support the academic, personal, social, and career development of students through comprehensive counseling programs. Their role as systemic change agents in enhancing school counseling programs is strongly emphasized.

Post-School Life and Transition to Adulthood :

Post-school life refers to the phase when students, after completing their schooling, encounter new challenges such as building an independent life, achieving financial independence, choosing an appropriate career, and forming emotional relationships. This period marks the transition from adolescence to young adulthood, preparing individuals socially and professionally for adult life.

Students’ Perspectives:

The perceptions of students, teachers, parents, and other educational stakeholders regarding the professional role of school counselors significantly impact the success of these programs. Counselors play a crucial role in providing academic and career guidance, creating educational and professional opportunities, and preparing students to take on responsibilities in various situations.

The Importance of Research:

This study aims to identify the existing gaps in school counseling programs and helps counselors and other stakeholders understand the academic, social, and career needs of students from their perspective, taking steps to improve and reform these programs.
