This thesis is structured around three primary objectives. Firstly, it seeks to present a status quo of tactile interpreting in Iran, accompanied by a detailed profile of Iranian tactile interpreters. This entails providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of tactile interpreting services in Iran, including an analysis of the availability, accessibility, and quality of these services. Additionally, the thesis aims to profile Iranian tactile interpreters, examining their backgrounds, qualifications, and experiences in the field.
Secondly, it aims to foster an understanding of the interpreters’ perception of their profession, including their perceptions of their role, responsibilities, and professional standards. This objective involves exploring tactile interpreters' perspectives on their profession, including their motivations, challenges, and aspirations. By gaining insights into interpreters' perceptions, the thesis aims to illuminate the qualifications, capabilities, and challenges associated with tactile interpreting in the Iranian context.
Ultimately, the study aims to underscore the imperative for service provision to support the Iranian DeafBlind minority. By providing a comprehensive analysis of tactile interpreting services and interpreters' perceptions, the thesis seeks to highlight the urgent need for enhanced support and resources to address the communication and support needs of the Iranian DeafBlind community.
