In the proposed thesis, the researcher intends to examine the effects of using spoken short forms in Persian subtitles of English movies on viewers, specifically their reading speed and reading pattern as well as their comprehension level of the presented material from the selected parts of the selected movies. The theoretical framework on which this research is going to be based is Jiřî Levý's "minimax strategy", according to which the viewers' effort and effect in reading Persian subtitles of English movies are going to be measured in different experimental situations; in other words, whether viewers read and comprehend better those subtitles in which short spoken forms are used or those in which there are lacking. in the present research project, the researcher intends to make use of eye-tracking technology to examine the viewers' reading speed and reading patterns, as well as comprehension tests to evaluate their comprehension level. In the end, the researcher intends to find out, on the basis of the "minimax" strategy proposed by Jiří Levý, whether using spoken short forms in Persian subtitles of English movies increases or decreases their readability.
